A group recognized as Ihyarev APC leaders in Benue State has encouraged Governor Samuel Ortom, to liaise with his Nasarawa State counterpart, Abdulahi Sule, for better security, around the border communities of both states.
Daily Trust reports that the group in a statement on Tuesday endorsed by some of its leaders in Makurdi, said the mutual efforts of the two governors would facilitate strong security connections and wade off persistent attackers on rural dwellers at border communities.
“In this connection, Governor Ortom should immediately commence discussions with the Nasarawa State Governor so as to build a formidable security wall around our people for their safety without further delay. This measure had proved effective during the reigns of Governors Akume and Suswam,” they said.
Nexus News learned that the APC Ihyarev leaders also emphasized the necessity for the Benue Governor to execute the suggestions of General Atom Kpera committee for peace to reign in the state, remarking that the committee had delivered a road map that would engender peace in the state.
“We acknowledge that there had been sporadic incidences of conflicts between the Fulani herders and our farming communities predating our generation and the present administration of Governor Ortom which were seasonal and immediately settled through dialogue and compensation.” the statement added.
