Fact Check: Queen Elizabeth Orders 80 of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United Jerseys For Her Staff

Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United after 12 years had recently has brought the internet to a frenzy.

The player’s return has given rise to several claims and ‘facts’ about the nature governing his return, latest of which is a claim that Queen Elizabeth II has placed an order for 80 of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United jerseys for her staff.

It all started days after Manchester United declared Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to his home turf. A buzz began spreading on social media on 1st  September that Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom requested a signed jersey from Cristiano Ronaldo, thereby soliciting for his autograph.

However, a fact check by Nexus News proved this to be false.

The rumors kicked off when Sport Innovation Society (SIS) posted this:

However, SIS later deleted the above tweet and tendered a public apology.

Regardless, thie rumor kept spreading despite the apology tweeted by SIS.

Media outlets shared the story and recounted it as a true story, referring to the same source that originally tweeted and apologized for the story.

Furthermore, Nexus News gathered that Queen Elizabeth II has not been known to be a Manchester United fan. She has never explicitly indicated her support for the club and a 2018 report by goal.com further asserts that while she chooses to be neutral to football, the Queen is closest to a  West Ham fan.

Also, the report contends that the Queen of England allegedly has a chink for Arsenal, but hasn’t communicated any specific support for Manchester United.
