Secondus, Oyinlola, Jegede out as PDP moves chairmanship position to the North – Nexus News

In an organized move, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reviewed its zoning formula and zoned the chairmanship position to the North.

The decision, yesterday, was based on the decision of the Zoning Sub-Committee that moved all National Working Committee (NWC) positions presently in the North to the South and vice versa.

Accordingly, Uche Secondus, chairmanship aspirants in the South, and the suspended National Chairman, have been thrown out of the race.

The decision affected former governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and former governorship candidate in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede.

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Chairman of the sub-committee on zoning, after a long meeting in Abuja, yesterday, said that the body had not decided on the Presidency because that was not within its jurisdiction.

The statement issued after the meeting made it known that “the decision of the PDP zoning sub-committee is in line with the constitution of the party on zoning and rotation of party and national offices in the interest of justice, equity and fairness.

“Consequently, the current offices being held by officers in the southern zones of the country should swap places with the offices currently in the northern zones.”

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom’s Chief of Staff (CoS), Terwase Orbunde, on Wednesday, resigned his position so he can fully join the gubernatorial race.

This is inscribed in a communique he personally signed and released to the press yesterday in Makurdi.

According to the statement, his resignation was due to the directive issued by the governor that political appointees wishing to contest elections in 2023 should resign on/or before September 30.

“I hereby tender my resignation in compliance with the directive, with effect from September 30, 2021.

“The journey to my exit point started one Thursday afternoon in 1995 in my house in North Bank, Makurdi, where (now Governor) Ortom approached me with a message that he received God’s directive while in Zaria, that I would anchor his governorship campaign someday. In 2012, when he reiterated to me that the year would be 2015, we commenced activities towards the realization of the vision he had received,” Orbunde.
