Following increased security condition in the Zamfara, the state Government has commenced returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their communities .
This was disclosed by Hajia Faika Ahmed, the state’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management while informing newsmen in Gusau on Friday.
According to Ahmed, the government had donated food items and logistics to more than 400 IDPs to encourage them return to their communities.
She said the IDPs are being assigned to district heads in various emirates. The commissioner put in that the IDPs, mostly women and children, were being escorted by security operatives to secure their safe return.
Ahmed, who said that about 184,000 households were affected by banditry in the state, stated that there were 600,000 IDPs in the state.
Furthermore, Ahmed said reports from security agencies had corroborated that law and order had been reclaimed in most communities affected by banditry and kidnapping in the state.
